Getting to know my baby

Bonding with your baby can begin during pregnancy. Parents play a vital role in early brain development by helping babies feel calm and safe, which supports healthy growth.

Developing a bond

It is never too early to start to bond with your baby. As a parent, you have a crucial role in your baby's brain development, even before birth.

In the womb, and during the first three years, your baby's brain is growing at its fastest. Even before birth, parents can help babies to feel calm and safe, which reduces cortisol, the stress hormone. Reducing cortisol enables healthy brain growth.

Research shows that baby's brains develop best when they have strong bonds with their parents and caregivers. All these suggested activities can help with bonding.
