Caring for my baby

If you are a first-time parent then you may be feeling a little nervous about caring for your baby, especially if you haven't changed a nappy before or bathed a baby.

In this section

  1. Skin to skin

Skin to skin contact helps soothe and bond with your baby.

  2. What's in a nappy?

If you're a new parent, nappy changes can be messier than you are expecting.

  3. Baby's health and checks

Checks that are recommended in the first couple of weeks after your baby is born.

  4. Safe sleeping

Getting enough sleep is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing.

  5. Tongue tie

A tongue-tie can be difficult to diagnose. Some are obvious and others need professional skill to diagnose.

  6. Skin care and bathtime

It's usually recommended to only use warm water when cleaning your baby for at least the first few weeks.
