Welcome to the Kent & Medway Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) professionals' area.

The Kent & Medway LMNS is made up of colleagues working with women and expectant families, finding ways to improve maternity services together to drive forward maternity transformation and ensure safe, personalised care for all. In this section of the LMNS website, the plan is to gather more resources to educate, train and support you and your colleagues as we work together.

Many thanks for working in partnership as part of our LMNS.

About the LMNS

The Kent and Medway LMNS is made up of colleagues working with women and expectant families, finding ways to improve maternity services together. Staff from many local organisations and many different professions are involved.

By working in partnership across organisations, we can design local services around what is wanted and needed for safe, personalised maternity care in the 21st century.

Key National Policy for Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems to support

Our challenge is to successfully implement all key national policies and standards, including:

  • Better Births (2016) including Continuity of Carer models
  • The NHS Long Term Plan (2019)
  • NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme
  • Health Education England Maternity Workforce Strategy (2019)
  • Neonatal Critical Care Review
  • National Maternity Digital Strategy (under review)
  • Recommendations of the Ockenden Report

Given the challenges facing maternity services, this can only be achieved by women, staff, managers and other professionals listening to each other and working together.
